Floats are decorated trailers or barges decorated in a common theme for a parade. Carnival Floats will often be decorated with papier mache flowers, props, and painted to coordinate with the theme.

There are several float builders across the New Orleans area, which each bring their own special style to the floats they design.

Floats hold a variety of members, (sometimes none) or as few as 2 or 3 people to as many as hundreds of members in the case of Tandem floats.

Typically, floats will change their look each year to go with the Parade’s theme, with the exception of Signature Floats. Signature Floats are elaborate floats which are paraded in a Krewe’s parade each year.
