Moon Pie

Moon Pies are marshmallow-filled snack cakes traditionally thrown during many Gulf Coast Carnival parades.

History

Moon Pies replaced Cracker Jack boxes in some parades after World War II because they were softer and safer.

Origins

Originally manufactured in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Evolution

They remain strongly associated with Gulf Coast Mardi Gras.

Modern Use

Frequently thrown in Mobile and some Louisiana parades.
