Last night, Thoth held their King’s Caravan March as well as the 2nd annual Les Fous du Carnaval parade. There were several balls going on around town, including the Krewes of Nereus and Atlas and the Pussyfooters’ Blush Ball (where we were in attendance). The Pussyfooters’ were able to contribute $50,000 to the Metropolitan Center.
This afternoon, Lafreniere Park in Jefferson Parish held a King Cake Tasting Festival where dozens of various king cakes were available for sampling.
Tonight, The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus rolls through the Bywater/Marigny/Quarter Starting at 7pm. The Theme is “Let the Wookiee Win”. In this parade, you’ll see tons of various subkrewes marching with themes in the horror/sci-fi/adventure realm, some with salutes to both the Carnival and Sci-Fi worlds. Many of these groups will walk with homemade “contraptions”, their version of floats. Look for the hand crafted throws that the various Sub-Krewes throw including wooden nickels, poker chips, various hand decorated trinkets, and, if you are lucky to have one, Bandolier blocks for the various subKrewes to add to your Bandolier. All hail the Sacred Drunken Wookiee!
Also tonight, several Krewes will be celebrating their royalty with Balls including the Krewe of Excalibur, Krewe of Southdowns, and Krewe of Apollo de New Orleans. The Krewe of Carrollton also will celebrate their annual Walkabout parade down Oak St. this evening.
Tomorrow, look for the Krewe of Nefertiti as they roll through New Orleans East in their Family Day Parade starting at 1pm with the theme of “Nefertiti Roar”. Look for their medallion beads, krerwe emblazoned throws and their beautiful hand decorated jewelry. Each year, the Krewe picks a different piece of jewelry to highlight to be revealed at parade time. Hail Nefertiti!!
Also, tomorrow the Southern Food & Beverage Museum will hold their King Cake Connection where they celebrate king cakes and Mardi Gras treats made by many black owned businesses and bakeries of the area.
Monday, the annual Galatoire’s table auction for Mardi Gras weekend takes place. The auction benefits several local non-profit organizations, including the Galatoire’s Foundation.
It is also expected that the City of New Orleans will officially annouce that Parades will be able to return to their full ength routes, as the have been able to acquire assistance with Additional police coverage for the parade routes through assistance from surrounding Parishes’ police.
